For the entire month on July and into August, I was able to cover the MLS is Back 2020 Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando, Fl. I covered this tournament for Zuma Press and this was the first major sporting event to happen during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. This event proved that sports would go on while operating in a “bubble” to prevent the spread of the virus amongst players. Since the start of the tournament, not one player contracted the virus from within the bubble. As a credentialed photographer outside of the bubble, each day we had to answer a self assessment questionnaire and pass through temp checks at security. The entire MLS crew handled everything extremely well and everyone was very accommodating.
Our shooting locations were not ideal. All photographers were stationed in one corner of the field about 15 feet behind the fencing. Most of my matches I had to shoot through the netting. Not ideal but I was glad to be there to cover the events. Hopefully more MLS is in my future once regular season matches start up.
